Belper Town Ladies completed a remarkable win against Pride Park Development on Sunday, but credit must go to the lower division opposition who never stopped running.

In truth Belper created many more opportunities than just the ones they scored, with the earliest example coming on two minutes when Sky Hughes' through-ball found Alice Faulding. Her shot hit the post and when the ball came back to Hughes she hit the other post as the Pride Park goal led a charmed life early on.

The Nailers however did score from their next attack when, in the fifth minute a Jazz Buxton corner fell to Faulding who blasted home from eight yards to make it 1-0.

On seven minutes a Hollie Thompson pass found Faulding who was through on goal but Jessica Galbraith was out of her goal early to block the shot.

In the 11th minute Honor White's cross picked out Hughes but her volley was saved by Galbraith.

Belper doubled their lead a couple of minutes later when White picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and unleashed a shot which flew over Galbraith.

Thompson then found Faulding in the 14th minute, she flashed a shot wide and on 17 Faulding passed to Hughes who finished well but the offside flag was up.

In the 20th minute it was three. Hughes ran through and produced a nice chip over the goalkeeper.

The Nailers only had to wait two minutes for another. White laid the ball off for Mia Carnelley who came up with a first touch finish from 12 yards.

Faulding netted her second in the 24th minute when she nonchalantly chested in a cross from Carnelley.

The hattrick was completed for Faulding on 28 minutes, again Carnelley the provider, this time for a low header at the back post.

The half hour mark saw Belper score a seventh and it was the same combination again, a pinpoint pass from Carnelley being finished by Faulding.

Pride Park had seen most of their attacking endeavors snuffed out by the Belper defence but on 31 minutes they got a goal back through Libby Myerscough who tapped in at the back post after Emma Varnam had saved a shot from Sarah Coles.

In the 33rd minute a lovely Belper move saw White's cross find Faulding. She laid the ball off for Hughes but the shot was just wide.

There was still time for another goal before half-time. Buxton's long defence splitting pass reached Hughes, her initial effort was blocked but she was quickest to the rebound to ensure Belper led 8-1 at the break, although this could have been more with Hughes seeing another effort crash off the crossbar.

Manager Dom Anderson shuffled his pack with four half-time substitutions seeing the introduction of Anna Macluskey, Katy Claxton, Alex Holland and Abi Bancroft.

Two minutes into the second half Thompson found Hughes who produced a good save from the substitute goalkeeper, with Galbraith having been forced off injured then seconds later with White through on goal it was the goalkeeper to the rescue again.

Belper's first goal of the half came on 50 minutes when Holland's pass into the penalty area found Thompson and her effort was unstoppable into the far corner to make it nine.

In the 54th minute a Thompson free-kick was saved but Macluskey was on hand to tap home the rebound.

On 58 minutes Faulding laid the ball off for Bancroft after her own shot was blocked and the substitute lofted the ball nicely into the corner.

On the hour mark, Faulding's shot crashed off the bar before Bancroft's shot was saved at point blank range.

Three minutes later the pass of the match from Hughes reached Faulding who ran into the box before unselfishly passing to Bancroft. She followed up her initial shot which hit the post to make it twelve.

Faulding missed an opportunity for a fifth goal of her own in the 64th minute, the goalkeeper saving when she was clean through but a minute later she provided an assist for Hughes who found a lovely finish with the outside of her right foot.

On 77 minutes Leah Longdon played a one-two with Holland and then tried her luck, with the shot bouncing back off the post.

In the 83rd minute Holland found Macluskey inside the area and she made no mistake to complete her brace.

In the final minute of normal time, Holland won possession back after Pride Park had half cleared a corner but the effort was just over the bar.

The scoring was completed in the first minute of injury time when Bancroft's pass left Macluskey with an easy finish and she became Belper's third hattrick scorer of the afternoon, joining Faulding and Hughes.

The gulf in quality was evident but Pride Park were a young and inexperienced side who will no doubt produce some very good players in the coming years.

Belper Town Ladies were joined by mascots for the day from the Under 8 Girls Team: Elsie Williams, Marley Carter, Phoebe Smith, Caitlyn Williams, Marnie Clewley, Evelyn Botham and Isla Williams.

The Reserves were defeated 6-0 at higher division Borrowash Victoria, also in the County Cup.
