Belper Town Ladies suffered defeat in Grimsby for the second successive Sunday, this time in the League with Grimsby Borough victorious.

Manager Dom Anderson was missing several players and had to make do with only two outfield substitutes.

Belper had the first chance of the match just a couple of minutes in when Sky Hughes won possession from a Borough defender but her shot was just wide.

The hosts took the lead on five minutes. Imogen Hull, a thorn in the Nailers' side all afternoon, laid the ball off for Darcy Revill who produced a nice finish with her left foot.

In the 15th minute it was two. Phoebe Emerson had a shot from the edge of the box which Hannah Whysall saved but Hull was quickest to react and double the lead for Borough.

Five minutes later it was nearly three when Tyra Cockburn's through ball found Hull on the left, her shot clipped the outside of the post and went wide.

On 23 minutes Hull outpaced the Belper defence on the right but her powerful shot hit the underside of the bar, bounced down and was cleared to safety.

Within a minute at the other end a nice lay off by Freya Wilson found Hughes but her shot was saved by Lily Rice.

In the 32nd minute a free kick by Darcy Revill was half cleared as far as Mia Westerman, her shot from range dipped late but was well watched and saved by Whysall.

The final action of the half on 38 minutes saw Hughes play Abi Bancroft in, she had to battle for the ball and her shot was saved by Rice on the stretch.

The start of the second half summoned up memories of 24 hours earlier at Dunston where the Men's team were also 2-0 down at the break.

Another fantastic comeback looked on the cards in the 47th minute when Bancroft found Hughes with a great ball, she rounded the goalkeeper before slotting home to reduce the arrears.

Within sixty seconds it was 2-2. Holly Thompson tried her luck from the left and the ball flew over Rice to stun Borough.

Unfortunately parity didn't last long, with Hull cutting in from the left and finishing well on 52 minutes to restore the lead and then in the 56th minute Hull broke the Belper defensive line before rounding Whysall and scoring to complete her hattrick and make it 4-2.

In the 59th minute a straight red card for Macy Revill meant the Nailers were playing against ten players but as with earlier in the game when Borough had a player sinbinned, they were unable to take advantage.

On 67 minutes Hughes found Anna Macluskey but her chipped shot was just wide.

A minute later Borough effectively killed the game off. Westerman cut in from the right and had a shot to which Whysall got a palm but the ball trickled agonisingly over the line, hard luck on the Belper 'keeper who had another solid afternoon.

In the 72nd minute a Wilson free kick for Belper stung the palms of Rice.

The final action of the match all came in injury time and in Belper's favour.

Firstly Thompson's free kick was just over the bar before great work by Mia Carnelley on the right ended with her fizzing a shot which also troubled Rice.

The Nailers picked up a consolation goal in the 93rd minute when a great passing move between Bancroft, Wilson and Hughes resulted in the latter finding another cool finish.

Belper slip to 9th in the East Midlands Womens Regional Football League Division One North table but showed again that they are capable of competing at this level.
