Sherwood Colliery FC (A) – Monday 26th August 2024
The Opposition - History
The club was formed in 2008, although a club of the same name did compete in the FA Cup in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
They joined the Central Midlands League in 2012, and entered the FA Vase for the first time in 2016 where they beat both Penistone Church and Clipstone both of higher divisions before being knocked out 3–2 by Westfields.
The 2017–18 season saw the club finish as runners-up in the league and subsequently gain promotion to the East Midlands Counties Football League.
The 2019–20 season saw the club enter the FA Cup for the first time, getting past Quorn F.C. in the extra preliminary round, before losing out to Loughborough Dynamo in a replay in the next round.
In 2021, the club were promoted to the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League based on their results in the abandoned 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons.
The 2023–24 season saw Colliery promoted as champions to the eighth tier.
The Opposition - This Season
The Wood started the season with a draw against Grantham Town in the FA Cup which was followed by a heavy defeat in the replay.
They opened the league campaign with a good win over Consett but have since slipped to defeats against North Ferriby and Grimsby Borough either side of a draw with Stocksbridge.
They currently sit 14th: P 4 W 1 D 1 L 2 F 4 A 7 Pts. 4.
A journey of around 21 miles awaits the Nailers today.
Manager Wayne Savage has been in charge for a few seasons now.
So far this season Aaron Korpal leads the way with two goals. Marley Grant, Craig Mitchell and Ethan Wiesztort have one each.
The Nailers
Belper enjoyed a great start to the campaign, with a victory at Heaton Stannington followed by a home win against Bradford (Park Avenue) and then Lutterworth Town in the FA Cup.
There was a setback at Emley during the week where mix-ups at the back meant a 1-0 lead was a 2-1 deficit by half-time and the hosts secured the points in injury time.
It was back to winning ways on Saturday with an impressive 3-0 home victory against Bridlington Town.
Harry Draper leads the way with three goals while Nat Crofts and Jacob Gratton have a couple each. Keaton August, Lewis Austin and Ben Rhodes have each notched one goal.
The Nailers sit third in the table: P 4 W 3 D 0 L 1 F 7 A 4 Pts. 9.
Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between the sides.
The return fixture is scheduled for Wednesday, 1st January 2025.

Team News
There are no major injury concerns and no suspensions.
Permutations
A win for Belper would put us top if Cleethorpes and Emley fail to pick up three points; both are at home today.
A victory for Sherwood would almost certainly send them in to the top half of the table whereas defeat may nudge them towards the relegation zone in the fledgling table.
