The Opposition - History
The club was established in autumn 1877 as an offshoot of the local cricket club, playing their first match on 27 October 1877. In 1891 they joined the Combination. They finished bottom of the league in 1895–96 and left at the end of the 1898–99 season, when they switched to the Manchester League. They were runners-up in 1904–05 but spent most of the next seven seasons in lower mid-table, finishing second-from-bottom on three occasions, before the league was disbanded in 1912.
Buxton rejoined the Manchester League when it was re-established in 1920, and considered applying to join the new Football League Third Division North when it was formed in 1921, although they did not submit a bid. They were Manchester League runners-up in 1928–29 and 1929–30 and League Cup winners in 1925–26 and 1926–27. After winning the league in 1931–32, they joined the Cheshire County League.
After World War II they were runners-up in 1946–47, and in 1951–52 they reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time, eventually losing 2–0 at Second Division Doncaster Rovers in the third round.
In 1958–59 Buxton reached the first round of the FA Cup again, and after beating Crook Town 4–1 in the first round, they lost 6–1 at Accrington Stanley in the second. Another first-round appearance in 1962–63 resulted in a 3–1 defeat at Barrow in a replay. The season also saw them finish as runners-up in the Cheshire County League, and they went on to win the league title in 1972–73, earning promotion to the Northern Premier League. When the league gained a second division in 1987, Buxton were placed in the Premier Division, where they remained until finishing bottom in 1996–97, resulting in relegation to Division One. After finishing bottom of Division One the following season, they were relegated to the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League.
In 2005–06 Buxton won the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, earning promotion back to Division One of the Northern Premier League. The following season saw them crowned champions again, resulting in promotion to the Northern Premier League's Premier Division. They finished fifth in their first season back in the division, qualifying for the promotion play-offs, in which they beat Witton Albion on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the semi-finals, before losing the final 2–0 to Gateshead. In 2021–22 the club defeated York City 1–0 in the first round of the FA Cup before losing 1–0 at home to Morecambe of League One. They finished the league season as champions of the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League and were promoted to the National League North.
Buxton reached the second round of the FA Cup again the following season, beating Merthyr Town 2–0 in the first round, before losing 4–0 at Ipswich Town. They also won the Derbyshire Senior Cup, defeating Derby County Academy 2–1 in the final.

The Opposition - This Season
The Bucks started the season in fine form, winning their opening three matches in National League North but then things took a downturn with four successive defeats.
After defeating Rushall Olympic they faced two FA Cup ties which both went to replays, eventually losing to Kidderminster Harriers before three further league defeats as they slipped down the table.
They rounded off October with three wins including 7-1 against Needham Market and after a six game unbeaten run they were beaten by Brackley Town.
They exited the FA Trophy to Darlington carried on a decent run in the NLN until Warrington Town got the better of them just before Christmas.
On Boxing Day they defeated Alfreton Town 3-2 at Silverlands but their last two matches have been defeats against Chester and Peterborough Sports.
The Nailers
Belper started the season well, winning their first three matches before coming unstuck at Emley.
They bounced back with another couple of wins before Bromsgrove Sporting ended the FA Cup run in a replay.
An excellent performance and win at North Ferriby was followed by a home defeat to leaders Cleethorpes Town but a run of five successive wins followed.
Successive home defeats to Brighouse Town and Newton Aycliffe in the space of five days provided a setback but this once again propelled the Nailers who won five out of their next six before a poor performance at Stocksbridge.
A penalty shootout win over Glossop North End in the Derbyshire Senior Cup followed and then after no draws in the league in their first 18 games, matches with Garforth and Brighouse both finished all square.
Belper are one of the form teams in the league in recent weeks, having enjoyed comfortable wins over Heaton Stannington, Sheffield FC and Sherwood Colliery over the festive period and they were on the right end of a nailbiter at Bradford (Park Avenue) two weeks ago.
Last midweek saw the good run come to an end as North Ferriby won at the Raygar Stadium and then Ossett took the three points at the weekend to make it back to back defeats.
Harry Draper is well clear as leading goalscorer with 22 while Curtis Burrows and Luke Rawson have seven each. Nat Crofts is on five.
Head to Head
The two sides have met on 38 occasions and Belper's record is not a good one.
The record scoreline in the fixture remains shared between the first contest, a 9-2 win for Buxton in the Derbyshire Senior Cup back in 1960 and the most recent meeting when they won 7-0 in an FA Cup Qualifier just over four years ago.
The main highlight for Belper is the 1997/98 season when the fixture was played four times (2 x Step 4 as well as the Challenge Cup and Unifilla Cup) and the Nailers won all of them.
The majority of the games have been played in this competition, though including this one it will only be 4 out of the last 14.
Overall record for Belper: P 38 W 11 D 8 L 19 F 52 A 77.
(21 x Derbyshire Senior Cup, 5 x FA Cup, 4 x FA Trophy, 1 x Challenge Cup, 1 x Unifilla Cup, 6 x NPL)
