The Opposition - History
The club was founded in February 1886 and joined the North Cheshire League four years later. Glossop spent two seasons each in The Combination and the Midland League, before moving to North Road and being elected into the Football League Second Division in 1898. Having been promoted in the 1898–99 season, they spent one season in the First Division. During this period the club was bankrolled by Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, who was later to become chairman of Arsenal. The club retains some connections with Arsenal. Glossop were relegated in 1900 and spent the next fifteen seasons in the Second Division, before exiting the Football League during World War I.
Glossop North End spent 1920 to 1957 in the Manchester League, being crowned champions in 1927–28. They moved from the Lancashire Combination back to the Manchester League in 1966, and then spent four seasons in the Cheshire County League from 1978. Glossop were founder members of the North West Counties League in 1982 and won Premier Division title at the end of the 2014–15 campaign. They were beaten finalists in the FA Vase in 2009 and 2015.
In an unprecedented move the majority of football activities were ceased mid March 2020 due to the Coronavirus, and by the end of March the NPL took the decision along with all step 4 and lower divisions to end the season early and expunge all results with no promotion or relegation taking place. The Coronavirus took centre stage again in the 20/21 season, with only a handful of games being played before the season was cancelled in Feb 2021. This was followed in March 2021 by the resignation of manager Pete Band who left to join up with his hometown team Macclesfield FC. The new manager, Stuart Mellish, took charge at the beginning of May ready to start the 2021–22 season in the newly realigned NPL Division One West Division.
The last three seasons have been disappointing, with relegation from Step 4 confirmed in 2023 and last season they finished 21st in the NWCL Premier.

Manager Richard Brodie took over in January 2024.
A journey of around 40 miles awaits them this evening.
The Opposition - This Season
The Hillmen lost their opening two league matches of the season before bouncing back to defeat Litherland REMYCA in a Cup match.
After a 2-1 reversal at home to South Liverpool they picked up their first three points away to Stockport Town but then went on a four match losing streak.
Mid-September saw an improvement in their fortunes, with four successive victories and after a heavy defeat at home to Lower Breck they won their first two matches of October.
After two successive draws they lost to Irlam, Sandbach United and Abbey Hey before going undefeated in their first four matches of a busy November then ending with defeats to Lower Breck once again and Padiham.
The Nailers
Belper started the season well, and their only away defeats in the league remain at Emley back in August and Stocksbridge at the weekend.
After defeat at home to Cleethorpes came a run of five successive wins, ended at the Raygar Stadium by Brighouse Town and then four days later Newton Aycliffe won at Belper by the same scoreline of 2-0.
However the 22nd of October saw a return to winning ways, Harry Draper securing a brace as the Nailers won at Carlton Town.
A month ago Belper exited the FA Trophy, losing on penalties at Chasetown after a 1-1 draw but back in the League the following weekend the three points were secured in an incredible 6-4 win over Consett.
A comfortable midweek victory over Pontefract Collieries saw the unbeaten run extended before a nervy one goal penalty win over Ashington.
Two weeks ago saw a 2-0 win at Grimsby Borough but after a weather enforced break Stocksbridge picked up the points in South Yorkshire with a 3-0 win.
Draper is clear as leading scorer with 18, while Nat Crofts and Curtis Burrows have five. Luke Rawson sits on four and Keaton August & Jack Broadhead have two.
Head to Head
The two sides have met on 17 occasions, with 10 of these being in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
Belper won the first three without conceding, including a 9-0 victory in February 1961, with Mick Lakin scoring five goals.
Glossop won two of the three encounters in the 1980s but the Nailers have won the last six, including the only two league encounters which took place during the Covid affected seasons of 2019/20 and 2020/21. Belper have also scored exactly two goals in each of the last seven encounters.
Overall record for Belper: P 17 W 11 D 2 L 4 F 35 A 19.
