Lutterworth Town (H) – Saturday 17th August 2024
The Opposition - History
Lutterworth Town spent most of their early days playing in local leagues, both the Lutterworth & District League and Leicester & District League, winning the latter in 1924.
They also found success in the Rugby Junior League, winning that in 1949 and the Leicester City League in 1951.
They joined Division Two of the Leicestershire Senior League in 1955. By 1967 they had gained promotion to Division One but suffered relegation five years later.
The late 70s and early 80s were a yo-yo period for the club, with three promotions and three relegations between 1975 and 1986.
The 90s saw a Leicestershire and Rutland Senior Cup victory and further promotions and relegations.
In 2017 they won the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division to gain promotion to the United Counties League Division One and reached the Premier Division in 2019 where they have remained since, finishing 12th last season.
The Opposition - This Season
The Swifts have enjoyed a great start to the season.
Opening up with a 3-2 victory over Northampton Old Northamptonians Chenecks FC, they picked up a 1-1 draw at Leicester Nirvana before beating Studley in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
They come in to the fixture today off the back of a midweek victory over Coventry United and currently sit 5th in the United Counties League Premier Division South (P 3 W 2 D 1 L 0 GD 2 Pts. 7).
A journey of just over 50 miles awaits them today.
Manager Will Andrew took the reigns in April 2022.
So far most of their goals have been shared out fairly evenly but midfielder Adbul Sunmonu leads the way:
Abdul Sunmonu 3
Matthew Langham 1
Louis Samuels 1
Bradley Coleman 1
Ben Bradshaw 1
Callum Riley 1
Benji Adamako 1
The Nailers
Belper picked up three wins in their six friendlies.
The campaign started with defeat at Ashby Ivanhoe where on a very difficult playing surface and with lots of new faces, the Nailers lost to the only goal of the match.
Next up was a 2-2 draw at Mickleover where Harry Draper and Ioan Evans were on the scoresheet.
An excellent 1-0 win at Barwell followed, Mason Warren securing victory from the penalty spot.
There was a setback at Sutton Coldfield with a disappointing performance leading to a 2-0 defeat.
The bounce back from this was impressive with a 3-0 victory over Burton Albion (Austin, Rawson x 2) and a 4-1 thumping of Long Eaton United (Draper, Warren, Rawson x 2).
The league campaign started with a first ever visit to Heaton Stannington and the Nailers came away with the points, Crofts and August on the scoresheet.
On Tuesday evening Belper went top, securing a 1-0 win at home to Bradford (Park Avenue) to make it six points out of six.
