I can’t argue with the performance, I thought we played really well especially in the second half. It was massively one way traffic, and we did everything but score. There were so many balls in and across the box, and so many we nearly got on the end of and a couple of good cut backs.
We had shots from distance and a couple dropped in the area which were smashed just over and wide. I think it’s a bit of a smash and grab from them; the first half was more even but I think we shaded the play, but the difference between the sides was the finish.
They put a good ball in the box and it’s a hell of a header from Tom Corner who is good at what he does; he’s absolutely powered that one into the top corner and you hold your hands up as it was a great goal.
We couldn’t have done a lot about the delivery and the header but what we could have done better is clear our lines before that. We had two chances to clear it, and we fluffed them both and they recycled the ball and put it in, and it was a great header.
So you take your medicine on that one and we came in at half time and reset, and it was one of those games, and we are always good at attacking the riverside end, and it was just like the Alamo in the second half and I thought we were excellent.
We kept getting the ball in good areas and Tav was a real problem down the right-hand side after we switched flanks. It was just that last little bit was missing, and it was one of those games where I just thought if you get one then we would probably get two.
We were just knocking on the door, and we just couldn’t quite break it down. They were resolute and credit too them, but it was completely one way traffic in the second half, and I had no idea how the ball stayed out of the net.
Its important (to get back to winning ways) but there are a lot of good teams in this league, and I say it all the time; we’ve lost one in twelve, we’re doing really well and in a great position. You talk about stretching the gap at the top, but I’m looking at sixth (place) and being realistic about it.
Our target before the start of the season was to be in the play offs and if we could have got fifth place we would have taken it, so we’re in a great position and got no problems with that. There’s ways to lose games and if you’re going to lose games you go down swinging.
We’ve given everything tonight and I can’t fault any of the lads; they’ve come off with nothing left in the tank and thrown everything at it and if we play like that every week, we will win a lot more games than we lose.
We’ve played worse than that and won, there’s no doubt about that so its one of those that you have to scratch it and move on. There’s not loads to take from it in terms that we can build on because the games come thick and fast.
We’re not going to work between now and Saturday; you just rest up and if you win on Saturday, you are still on a decent run so that’s what we are going to try and do.
