It’s never nice coming here let’s be honest, the pitch is a tough one, conditions are hard.
You play against a side that you know what you’re going to get, and you get low risk football where they put it forward.
It’s always a difficult one because its hard not to turn it into one of those games; you want to get your foot on the ball and try and move it and play more of a passing game but again the pitch makes it difficult.
So, it was a tough game but its another point in the right direction but it’s a frustrating one as we went one up again. I was saying to the lads we’ve lost one away game all season and its nearly Christmas.
We’re doing lots of things right, but we just lacked at the sharp end of the pitch today. We had a lot of the ball in good areas and even got a lot of shots off but didn’t really test the ‘keeper and we’re lacking a bit of quality up there.
Let’s be honest, we’re missing the top scorer in the league, and we’ve not mentioned it in the last three or four interviews but Draper’s back after today and he’ll be back next Saturday and he’s going to make a difference.
Managers will say all the time that when a player drops out it’s a good chance for someone else, but we can’t hide the fact that we’re missing one of the best players in the league and he’s been our talisman this year.
Putting the ball in the net is the hardest part of the game we all know that; we’ve got one of our centre forwards coming back and that will strengthen us again and it was important that we didn’t lose games while he wasn’t here.
Garforth away followed by Brighouse away in the space of four days on heavy pitches and we’ve not lost either of them but obviously we would like to have won.
(Tav) is a real thorn in the side, isn’t he? He’s sharp and I like him, he’s direct and we probably need to get him facing their goal a little more. Today he was in a fight especially in the second half a lot of the time, playing with his back to goal.
He handled his body quite well today for a young lad, so we’re pleased with him, and I think he’ll only get better on the better surfaces especially when we play at home, I think he’s going to be a live wire for us.
So, lots of positives despite the result and like I say we’ve not lost the game and its another point in the right direction. If you look at it, we’ve had four away games on the row I believe, if you go back to Grimsby, Stocksbridge then Garforth and here.
We’ve done all right but let’s get ourselves back home next week against Heaton Stannington and we kind of need to put three points on the board; and while draws are great they keep you ticking but draws are only any good if you win your next one.
This week we drew at Garforth and that would have been a great point if we would have won today but it’s turned out to be two draws, but its not the end of the world.
In the second half of the season, we need to put our foot down a bit.
