'Nailers Notebook'

Barney signs for the second time

Belper Town is delighted to announce that former player, Mark Barnard has signed for the Club following his appearance in today’s pre-season friendly match against Matlock Town.

Mark is an experienced defender who started his career as a trainee with Rotherham United. He moved to Darlington in 1995 and became a first-team regular at Feethams, making over 150 Football League appearances.

Mark moved on to Doncaster Rovers in 1999 and then on to Northwich Victoria in October 2000. He was transferred to Worksop Town in May 2002 and then returned to the Conference with Tamworth in August 2003.

His spell with the Lambs was a brief one, re-joining Vics for a second time, but that too was a short stay, but not as brief as his one-match stint with Belper Town (a 3-1 victory at Bridlington Town), eventually settling at Harrogate Town in November 2003.

However, in June 2005 he joined the exodus of players to Stalybridge Celtic only to move onto Alfreton Town a year later.

And after another typically impressive display at Christchurch Meadow today, he finally put pen to paper by signing for the Nailers for the second time.
